The Richmond HEAL Zone is a network of community partners working together to make healthy choices the easy choice for Richmond residents. Our goal is to help prevent diseases such as diabetes and hypertension that often result from being overweight or obese.
The HEAL Zone Community Action Plan (CAP) was created by Richmond residents and includes several different activities and strategies aimed at helping people eat better and move more by focusing on:
- Lowering calorie consumption
- Increasing fresh fruits and vegetables consumption
- Increasing physical activity in community settings, such as parks, and safe routes for walking and biking
- Increasing physical activity in institutional settings, such as schools and work sites
The Richmond HEAL Zone brings together community residents with a network of partner organizations, including:
- Eco Village
- Weigh of Life
- Richmond Main Street
- Youth Enrichment Strategies
- Contra Costa Health Department
- Arts Change
- Via de Salud
By working together, we can make lasting, positive changes in Richmond’s social and physical environments.
We invite and welcome individuals, groups and organizations to join the Richmond HEAL Zone and the fight against obesity.

Healthy Beverage Consumption Campaign
To leverage the recent soda tax spotlight in the media, the HEAL Zone is continuing to engage in deeper conversations with residents and faith-based organizations around obesity and the negative health impacts of sugar sweetened beverages. The HEAL Zone partnered with Healthy Richmond to do outreach and work with residents to host peer education sessions. Youth Enrichment Strategies (YES) held an event recently where 100+ residents combined physical activity with education around drinking healthy beverages.
