Bayview HEAL Zone and Food Guardian Corner Store Transformations Lead to City-Wide Legislation

With succesful healthy retail transformations of two corner stores in the Bayview and one more scheduled for October, the Food Guardians have inspired and laid the groundwork for a citywide Healthy Food Retailer Ordinace. The Ordinance was introduced by San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar, and was finally approved this month. The legislation will create a Healthy Retailer Incentive Program in the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) that will help coordinate current healthy retail efforts in the city offering stores technical assistance, retail assessment, help with permitting, and small loans and grants.
